Szechuan King: Authentic Chinese Takeout Experience in Saugerties

There’s a certain authenticity in the way Szechuan Panda carries itself on Mesa Ridge Parkway in Fountain, Colorado. It’s not about pretense or slick decor—it’s about the raw, unvarnished pleasure of good Chinese food done right. Stepping inside, you feel like you’ve discovered a hidden gem, a place that pays homage to the tradition of home-cooked meals without any of the polished trimmings. The moment you walk in, the smell hits you. That intoxicating mix of sizzling garlic, chili, and soy sauce rolling off the woks in the back. You hear the sharp clang of metal spatulas against hot pans, the controlled chaos of a kitchen that’s been perfecting these flavors for years. It’s the kind of place where you sit down, breathe in deep, and suddenly realize just how hungry you really are. Then comes the real struggle—the menu. Because everything, and I mean everything, is good. You tell yourself you’ll try something new this time, but then you remember how good the orange chicken was last time—crispy, golden bites of perfectly battered chicken, coated in that sticky, citrusy sauce that somehow hits sweet, savory, and tangy all at once. But wait, maybe you should go for the shrimp, because that garlicky, wok-fried perfection was unreal. Or should you get the lo mein? Or the Mongolian beef? The pain of choosing is real. If you’re lucky, you’re dining in, soaking in the smells and the hum of the kitchen while your food is made fresh. But if you’re staying home, ordering is effortless—a few taps, and before you know it, your food is at your door, still hot, still just as good as if you were eating it in the restaurant. The service? Fast, efficient, and reliable. They don’t mess around. In a world where every restaurant seems to chase the next big trend, Szechuan Panda stands out as a reminder of what real cooking is all about. This 5 star review is based on Chinese take out. If you are looking for a traditional or higher end Chinese cuisine or experience this is not it. This is a solid Chinese take out joint. This is my favorite in the area because they have slight differences in the food compared to many other Chinese takeout. Some people might not like it, some might hate it and some might not even notice it. For example they have carrots in the chicken in broccoli. Not a lot and not just random piece’s that might have fell in but they add in a small bit of thinly sliced carrots. The boneless spareribs are very different. Most places have smaller pieces covered in sauce. Here it’s bigger pieces with not a lot of sauce. The wontons are my personal favorite. I don’t know why or how but they are just good. I have ordered here dozens of times and the order is always correct, made in a timely fashion and they are always friendly. Just a solid Chinese take out joint.

Although the food here is.... not bad, neither is it .... good. It does, however, serve that one purpose of food in that it solves that nagging problem of hunger whereby once you've eaten it, you will no longer be hungry or, indeed, need or want to eat again.

Been getting food from Szechuan for over 25 years! Not only are the owners the nicest people, their food is as awesome as they are! Quality, fresh ingredients, and the portions are big! We call their chicken noodle soup “the magic soup” in my family because whenever one of us get sick, it is the best for recovery! My sister used to go so frequently for lunch that the one day she stopped in for something small and didn’t have cash on her like usual, Kit said not to worry about it and to get them next time. It happened to be the week she left for college. She came back on holiday and stopped in to pay her bill and grab some food and they laughed and said, “Where’ve you been!?”. We have a lot of family that live here and so when our grandparents call to order food and one of the grandchildren picks up, they’ll ask which Mulligan we belong to, lol. Truly one of the best additions to our small town Saugerties! Keep it local!
